Father: It's Ottawa, in Ontario.

Girl: Is that where the President lives?

Father: Ha, Ha. Canada doesn't have a president, sweetie. The leader of Canada is called the Prime Minister. Our Prime Minister now is Jean Chretien. He lives in Ottawa, where the national 4 is.

Girl: How many people live in Canada, Daddy?

Father: I think it's more than 30 million people now.

Girl: When is Canada Day?

Father: July 1st. Canada began in 1867 on July 1st, almost 135 5 ago.

Girl: Who were the first people? The Indians?

Father: Don't say Indians, sweetie. Indians come from India. They aren't really Indians. That's what Christopher Columbus 6them because he thought he 7 in India in 1492. He was wrong. We call them "First Nations" or "aboriginal" or "indigenous". They like to be called First Nations people. These words all mean that they were the first people living in Canada before the Europeans.

Father: Alberta has a Premier. His 9 is Ralph Klein. He 10 be the mayor of Calgary.
